with the Montana Backcountry Outfitters

Plan the perfect summer vacation...Saddle up for an adventure of a lifetime in the Bob Marshall Wilderness! Whether you are an angler or a hiker, a backpacker or a photographer, or somebody just doing some soul searching and looking to “get away from it all”, a multi-day summer fishing trip or pack trip through the Bob Marshall Wilderness will most certainly provide a memorable wilderness experience to everyone.

These all-inclusive trips include individualized itineraries for those seeking an overnight adventure to our high country base camp. Our standard packages include a fully outfitted, full service seven or ten day getaway. However, together we can customize a trip tailored to suit your needs, interests and length of time you desire.

As we retreat to the backcountry of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, you will have the opportunity to hike and climb the wild and vast mountain ranges of America’s finest wilderness, grab your fishing gear and enjoy outstanding fishing in The Bob Marshall’s “blue ribbon” trout streams, embark on long scenic rides to destinations unknown or simply take advantage of escaping the stresses of everyday life in a comforting, relaxed atmosphere. Just let us know exactly how we can be of assistance to make your Montana adventure as enjoyable as possible.

  • Our summer services are fully outfitted and include all guiding, meals, and sleeping accommodations.
  • If your ambition is to experience fishing at its finest, we can plan our rides so that you can fish the many miles of excellent water suitable for all levels of fishing. A valid Montana fishing license is required for anyone over the age of 15. To fish Montana state waters, you will need to secure not only a fishing license, but you will also be required to purchase a conservation license.
    • For complete details on Montana state licensing requirements and additional regulations, please visit Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website at fwp.mt.gov
    • You may obtain or renew your Montana state fishing license from the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Department, a Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks provider, or online by following this link to fwp.mt.gov
  • Temperatures in the Bob Marshall are as unpredictable as its landscape. Generally, summer temperatures can range between a pleasant 85 degrees during the day to a crisp and cool 30 degrees at night, so think about layering your clothing. To make your trip as comfortable as possible, remember that it is mountain weather...so pack like it.
    • You will need to provide your own sleeping bag – preferably a three season sleeping bag that is rated for a minimum of 20 degrees.
    • To maximize your comfort level, your packing list should contain clothing essentials such as specialized footwear for riding and hiking, warm clothing for the cooler evenings, rain gear for the unexpected mountain shower or storm, lightweight clothing in breathable fabrics for those mini heat waves and sun drenched days.
    • Personal effects should include not only your hygiene essentials but sun glasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent for your off-the-beaten path excursions.
